19.9.06

Time is running so fast and again there is so much happened in Tg-Jiu. If we think that Carmena and Patricia have had a little bit time to rest after neutering campaign we are wrong. They go ahead with other projects.

Neuter & Return contract is one of the most important projects, which has to be closed soon. Carmena and Patricia have tried to make an appointment with city hall authorities to sign it and negotiate about details. To be started this kind of project need a lot to be organized and resourced. The authorities of Tg-Jiu city are not willing to cover all the costs of this kind of programme and we have to support very strongly Carmena and Patricia to succeed with this project, which is the human way to try to solve the stray dog problem.

In general the situation of stray dogs in Romania has not progressed to better at all. The Parliament of Romania has approved a project for the changing the law of stray dogs’ administration. When changed this law means that stray dogs will be kept in shelters only 3 days after catching if they do not find home in that short time. Now stray dogs are kept 14 days in the municipality shelters and killed if not found new homes. This project was adopted with 52 votes for and 7 against.

Patricia has visited couple of times in the old people’s home where Pro Animals Romania will start Therapy dog programme. Oldsters have welcomed Patricia cordially to their society. Many of those residents do not have any contact with their relatives so they want to think that Patricia is the member of their family. In future this programme will include also dogs starting to visit as well the residents of old people’s home.

The education programme in schools is also in our co-operation schedule. This programme has to be planned and organized very carefully. Collecting the printing material will take also some time because there is not so much good material in Romanian language. In English there is available material but it has to be translated to Romanian first. Of course this programme has to be operated together with school authorities and teachers.

Carmena visited in Bucharest on Wednesday. She was invited to participate an important meeting where the issue was animal protection. In that meeting were also some ministers, deputies and senators. We wait eagerly news about this meeting.

In the shelter of Tg-Jiu days are busy. Carmena tells that too many dogs have been abandoned lately and the shelter is totally overpopulated. Many dogs have also different kind of deseas and need treatments. It takes a lot of time and effort to run the shelter and we have to try to support Carmena and Patricia that they can start soon also construction of the new shelter.

There is so much help needed in Tg-Jiu and time is passing. I just hope that the help do not come too late. I think that you know what I mean.

With kind regards,

Kiia
