Hi there!
The summer is at its best and probably many of you are on a well earned
holiday. I’m, too, trying every once in a while to enjoy the Finnish
summer without any hurries even though a half of this year’s summer
holiday will be moved to autumn when we head again to Tg-Jiu shelter.
First I’m going to tell you news from the Tg-Jiu shelter. Carmena has
made an official contract of employment with Adi who is one of the two
employees. We met Adi on our visit to shelter in June, he seemed like a
very reliable and smart young man. We are very happy to hear that he
wished to stay at the shelter and wanted to sign an official contract.
There is another employee too, older man called Vasile, but he collects
welfare benefit and doesn’t want to formalize his employment since the
social aid would stop because of it. However, Vasile’s help is very
important to Carmena, so she pays his salary without any official
contracts.
Patricia has taken several shelter dogs for
neutering and told that during August about 10 more dogs will be taken
for sterilization. Speaking of it, I’d like to remind you that since
last year the neutering costs have tripled (and more) because the vets
have raised their prices. We must try to help in covering these costs
as far as possible since you can’t neglect the neutering of the shelter
dogs.
Patricia has also taken several dogs to see specialists and one of
these dogs is tiny Chica who had a badly severed eye. Chica’s eye
couldn’t be saved so it was removed. Now the little girl is doing fine!
There are extra pictures also relating to Usko and Toivo
Check out also pictures taken of Minni, Ninni and Penni in June.
Then a few words about fairs. PAFi got a chance to participate in
Elomessut from the 18 th to 19 th of August in Hämeenlinna. I suggest
you put a little mark on that date on your calendar and come to say
hello to our PAFi troops!

There are summer shirts for ladies still in our supply, the same
applies to our summery shopping bags. I hope you remember that all
income from our sold products go straight to building the new shelter.
On the 31 st of June there were 8.183,69 euros collected for the new
shelter. I was hoping we’d make a deal together to aim at breaking the
10.000 euros goal by the end of August? Then we’d have a nice basic
capital for the new shelter.
Then a few words about animal protection in Romania in general. Nine
members of the Romanian Parliament have submitted a bill for the
legislation in May. The bill is for setting up an administrative body
to Romania that would specialize in animal protection issues. The body
would supervise the implementation of animal protection and punish (by
law) the people in animal cruelty cases.
You can support the bill by signing a petition. The petition aims at getting 5000 names.
Here’s the link to sign the petition:

In these hot summer days I’m sure you’ll remember to check your
surroundings and act if you notice for example a dog alone in a hot
car. Sometimes even a moment can count!
With summery regards,
Kiia
