Patrcia has sent us emails in which she has told that after April and
the beginning of May the poisoning incidents have diclined. Lets hope
that new poisonings will not appear. More information about the
poisoning incidents you can find from here
The serveral poisonings happenened in Tg-Jiu and in Motru made the news
on Gorj county newspapers and were broadcasted on TV. Carmena and
Patricia were also interviewed. The media didnt want to make any very
profound story of the incidents but let's hope that the articles and TV
broadcasts woke people up to think about these matters. Pro Animals
Romania did of course report of the poisonings to the public authority
and that has taken a lot of effort among all the other work.
The shelter has suffered from lack of personel beacause both of the
people who worked for the shelter for few months have left. Patricia's
father has been helping out Carmena every day for couple of hours and
Patricia has tried to make it to the shelter every day after work and
other duties to help out her mother. They are recruiting staff to the
shelter with adds on the newspapers but no applicants have appeared
although they could afford to pay them a reasonable salary.
A young woman named Corina has been helping out at the shelter for the
past few weeks. Corina is one of the most succesful models in Romania
and she has been living longer periods of time abroad. In the autumn
she is going to move to Australia to continue her modelling career and
hopefully then Pro Animals will get positive publicity through Corina
all over the world.
Patricia has sent me a lot of pictures of the students to whom she and
Diana have held education classes. So far about 600 children in Tg-Jiu
have participated to the education program. Hopefully the exhibition
planned by Patricia will come true during our trip to Romania in June.
The plan for the exhibition is to set up drawings and other art made by
the children about the preventon of cruelty to animals.
I also got pictures from the Susen's home for the elderly in which
Patrcia has visited together with Diana and Corine aswell as with
Dolly, Kiki and Mickey to greet the eldery people every weekend. They
also have taken the eldery people outside to enjoy the beautiful
summerdays of which many them have only enjoyed throught the window.
Then I got pictures of three frail sisters, Minni, Ninni and Penni. The
siblings where caught in Rovinari where the mobile clinic recently
visited. The girls were spayed but they were in such a bad condition
that Carmena decided to take them under her care in Tg-Jiu shelter.
Minni, Ninni and Penni naturally need a lot of nurseing and I hope that
many of us could help out with expenses. You can find pictures of
Minni, Ninni and Penni here.
Usko and Toivo are doing well and have recovered brilliantly. Usko's
wound is almost unnoticeable and Toivo's fur has began to grow back.
Patricia is sorry that she hasn't had the time to take pictures of the
boys but promises to do her best to have the pictures taken. Only three
weeks I will meet the boys personally, I can hardly wait.
I hope you remember that the new shelter's buildingproject in Tg-Jiu is
very important. All the the income we get from our productsale go for
the new shelter's buildingproject. There are still plenty of
shoppingbags left in the storage and t-shirts and bracelets are still
available. Remember to do your shopping.
Althought the sterilization project is not running at the moment we
don't want to give up and we are trying to get the decision-makers in
Tg-Jiu to understand the importance of sterilization. We recognize that
the sterilization project requires a lot of different recourses so we
dont want to go ahead unprepared and that is why we try to get all the
recourse matters first ready. After that it will be a lot easier to
negotiate with the city's decision-makers. We are of course sad that
many dogs will suffer before the sterilization project will come true,
but that is the fact that we will have to live with somehow. The
resource matters are firmly connected to new shelter so that is why
supporting the buildingproject is vitally important.
Heli and Niina are coming with us to Tg-Jiu in June. I belive that they will experience unforgettable moments during the trip.
With sunny wishes,
Kiia
