26.4.07
Time goes by so fast that it is hard to keep up with it.
The days go by in a haste in Tg-Jiu as you can imagine. Everything is
fairly good there although it is still very hard to find employees who
will stay in that kind of undeveloped circumstances.
For few days we were living in a slight fear when Patricia told that a
city councils member of Brasov had visited the decision-makers of
Tg-Jiu and had visited the shelter as well. The city councils members
of Brasov think that the only way to solve the stray dog problem is to
put them all to sleep and this is what they very much recommended to
the Tg-Jiu’s decision-makers as well.
The Romanian law concerning stray dogs allows them to be put down in a
quite short term of time and all the agreements concerning
sterilization projects are up to each city’s own decision-makers. Pro
Animals Romania has done a contract with Tg-Jiu’s city council
concerning a sterilization project but as long as they don’t have the
resources to put it into action anything can happen, including
invalidation of the contract. This is very unfortunate yet true and
that is why we are trying to get the needed funds together quickly so
that we would be able to guarantee the start and the upkeep of the
project. The sterilization project will be in the beginning quite
costly with all the investments but when it will be running the costs
will be around 3000 euros per month. The food for the dogs recovering
from the sterilizations is covered in this sum. When the project is
running with it’s full power there will be about 50-100 dogs recovering
from the operations all the time.
Patricia also wrote to me that after this week 400 students in Tg-Jiu
will have diplomas and rewards for attending to the education courses
held by Pro Animals Romania.
An architect is still been seek to draw the building sketches for the
shelter. Hopefully the rush will be soon over and the architects would
have time to deal also with Pro Animals Romania’s assignment.
Then to PAFi’s matters. PAFi held a promotion day last Saturday in
Helsinki in the mall of Itäkeskus and the profit was a bit over 205
euros. We are very pleased that so many people recognize us form
different connections. And those who are really into protection of
animals acknowledge the importance of our work undeniably. A big thank
you goes for deco4u from Lahti who donated the main prices for our
lottery for the promotion day.
Next Saturday 28.4. PAFi will be participating an animal protection
-event at Tampere. Hopefully all our friends from Tampere will be able
to make it there.
Me and my
husband have confirmed our trip to Tg-Jiu on 10.-14.6. If there are
people willing to travel with us please contact me.
We will be taking Carmena and Patricia all different kinds of useful
things for the dogs at the shelter, such as de-worming medications,
vitamins, collars and leashes.
PAFi has decided to go and sell at a flea market on Sunday 20.5. in
Helsinki at Hietalahti’s flea market. We will be happy to collect above
mentioned donations there. Of course we will take donations at other
times as well, contact me if you want to donate something and we will
take it to the shelter for you.
Today PAFi got more
support items to it’s product family with handy and high quality
shopping bags made out of Taffet-fabric. The bags are packed in small
and sweet present bags and everybody who buys one will also get a cat
or dog themed badge of their choice.
Go and have a look
At this point I would like to thank all PAFi’s friends for all of their
support. With your help we have been able to guarantee Pro Animals
Romania a regular monthly support of 3000 euros for the benefit of the
dogs at Tg-Jiu shelter. On the top of that we have donations for the
sterilization project, new shelter, animal protection- fund and for
Usko’s and Toivo’s rehabilitation.
We have been able to use 500 euros monthly for the education work by
the support granted by the Finnish ministry of education but that will
last only until the end of the spring semester.
PAFi
has many plans for the future and we will do all that it takes to make
them come true. We will of course need you support for that as well
seamless co-operation with Carmena and Patricia. PAFi is very lucky as
we can fully trust our friends as well as Carmena and Patricia.
Wishing you a sunny and happy May Day,
Kiia
