Hi there,
Tomorrow morning we are leaving for the shelter but before that I want to tell some news – happy and sad ones – with pictures from Patricia for you.
Dona and Daria
On a newsletter a week ago I already told you that Dona was close to giving birth and earlier this week she delivered a lovely little filly named Daria. Dona as well as Carmena and Patricia are head over heels in love with the little one and after seeing pictures of Daria and Dona, you can’t but cry tears of joy and be grateful of how incredibly happy Dona must be after all she has been through!
The case of Dona’s abuse and custody is still unfinished. Patricia and Carmena had to appeal to Supreme Court in order get things forward. The lower instance didn’t see necessary to give Dona’s ex-owner anything but a petty fine. In case Dona’s case is still unfamiliar for you, here’s her story .
Happy mother with her little one
Greyhound Ricky and Daria ponder whether they are related
Life at the city shelter of Tg-Jiu
Patricia has regularly informed us how dogs are neglected at the city shelter. About 80% of the dogs on the city side are sick though when brought to the shelter they actually might be healthy. These dogs have lots of severe skin conditions and dogs are not separated let alone female dogs spayed so the male dogs fight for the females in heat, for food etc. Also new puppies are born all the time at the shelter and these dogs slowly pass away.
Patricia told that for a long time she hasn’t been able to go inside the city shelter since she can’t bear to see the dogs suffering. However, every day Carmena visits the shelter and does what she can for the dogs. The vet of the city gets a pay check all the time for treating the shelter dogs whenever necessary but for the past 1,5 years he has done absolutely nothing for the dogs! Even though Carmena and Patricia are constantly reporting of these issues, the local decision-makers are merciless.
Because of the pictures below we have once again pleaded for help from an EU-instance and are hoping that in some way these cruelties are stopped. Of course, on our shelter trip we will take as much photos and video clips as possible of the dogs at the city shelter and their miserable lives though it surely will make us incredibly sad.
We are meaning to get a meeting with the city decision-makers to discuss animal protection-related issues. We are also trying to meet up with the operative manager of the city shelter. We simply just can’t leave this issue to be taken care of by Carmena and Patricia alone. We have already started to prepare a comprehensive summary of the issues related to the city shelter and after it’s done we will send it forward to get help.
Here are some pictures of the dogs of the city shelter. These dogs were healthy when they arrived the shelter. The employees of the city shelter are more than willing to let the dogs suffer before they die at the shelter so Carmena and Patricia are the only ones who can give them at least some help. However, Carmena and Patricia are responsible for the dogs of their own shelter so they just can’t take a couple hundred extra dogs under their care -emotionally, physically or financially. And in the last hand, it is not Carmena's and Patricia's duty to solve the animal welfare issues of all county by themselves. Soon these dogs are moved to the new shelter of the city where they will suffer inside a closed doors and walls with hundred of others collected to the dog prison of Tg-Jiu.
These two dogs from the City Hall shelter died after suffering a dreadful pains and it was nothing to do anymore even Carmena tried to help them.

A couple of recovering patients
Here are a couple of pictures of pets brought to the shelter. The other one was beaten almost to death by the neighbour of the dog-owner and the other had been attacked by the aggressive dog of the neighbour. Both of these dogs ended up under Carmena and Patricia’s care for their time of recovery. Pro Animals Romania also paid for the operations and treatments of these dogs since the owners couldn’t have afforded it.
Things to be taken to the shelter
Here’s a picture of medicine we are taking to the shelter. Antibiotics are much needed at the shelter and with Stronghold- flea treatments dogs that have skin problems can be treated.

If you wish to participate in covering the costs of these medicines, we would greatly appreciate even the smallest of donations. You can donate for this cause by adding a message “tarhalääkkeet” or “shelter medicine”.
Dona’s godparent has promised to take also Daria-filly under her wings. However, this filly is growing so fast and her mother also needs as rich nutrients as possible - of course it’s important for Daria that also Dona stays healthy. If you want to donate in honour of Daria’s birth, add “Daria” in the message field of your donation. Big thanks!
Thankfully,
Kiia
