The situation on January 16th 2009
At first on
behalf of PAFi I want to thank all our friends for showing once again that
Tg-Jiu shelter dogs in Romania are a part of your heart and Pro
Animals’ work is important to you. Carmena and Patricia also want to send their
most sincere gratitude to all their Finnish friends. Without your help and
support over these past three years there wouldn’t even be Pro Animals Romania
let alone Tg-Jiu shelter.
In a week
we have managed to gather astounding 4.545,50 euros worth of donations
(including donations via PayPal). We have had supporters in individuals as well
as companies.
On Monday
the 11th we sent our regular monthly 4.000 euros of donations and extra
1.000 euros to buy food.
On Thursday
January15th we sent extra
3.000 euros to buy food so in total we have sent 4.000 euros to overcome the
food crisis.
We had made
an agreement with our bank that the bank wouldn’t charge anything for the
transaction. Of course Pro Animals Romania’s bank charges some money of the
transaction but luckily these sums aren’t impossible.
With this
subject I want to mention the fact that Päijät-Hämeen osuuspankki doesn’t
charge anything of transactions in PAFi’s account. Normally it could charge
something of every donation sent to PAFi’s account.
This is also a perfect example of how safely and according to all rules we could collect donations for an acute crisis thanks to our valid money collection licence.
Plea for help January 9th 2009
I received a message from Carmena and Patricia that the shelter is suffering from a serious shortage in dog food. The food donations delivered from Finland in December have already been used up. Already last month Carmena and Patricia bought extra 3000 kgs of dry food from Bucharest but out of this amount of food there are enough only for the upcoming week.
For several years now Brigitte Bardot Foundation has delivered ¼ of the monthly food of the shelter but now there has been an interruption in food delivery for already a couple of months. There have been halts before since the foundation undergoes changes from time to time and they’re reconsidering whether to support certain project destinations, in addition all the destinations in Romania are also now under microscope in BB Foundation. These halts seem to occur always when it’s roughest which means the turn of the year when the winter season is at its worst. Now it’s freezing -25 degrees Celsius at nights in Tg-Jiu and the shelter dogs need larger portions of food than at any other time.
At this moment it’s hardly possible to send food to the shelter from here but of course we try to collect money to help Carmena and Patricia to buy more food on the spot.
Let’s help together Carmena, Patricia and the dogs of Tg-Jiu shelter to survive the harsh winter and secure in advance already this summer and autumn that there surely is food for the next winter since it’s entirely possible that also next year there is some kind of a halt in food deliveries by BB Foundation. It may also be that Tg-Jiu shelter as well as many others in Romania are not on BB Foundation’s list of food donations so that’s all the more reason why we must act now.
Carmena and Patricia also told that once again the New Year’s fireworks had caused the shelter dogs to panic and they had somehow managed to break the fence. Many dogs had run away. Carmena and Patricia had had to collect these dogs from the city while doing other chores since Vasile, the worker, was on his four-day-holiday. Renewing/fixing the fence had taken some extra money on the first days of the year.
On Monday PAFi will forward the monthly donation (4000 euros) and an extra 1000 euros for food. Let’s hope that by the end of next week we could send more donations for the food. 1000 kgs of dry food costs about 700 euros when you buy it from the factory in Bucharest.
This all is one of the reasons why it was necessary and justifiable to add the extra 5 euros to the monthly goddog fee.
If you have the chance to help, add a message ”ruokahätäapu” or ”for food crisis” and PAFi will forward the donation to Pro Animals Romania. PAFi’s bank account is the same old 504506-291815 or IBAN: FI08 5045 0620 0918 15, SWIFT: OKOYFIHH. Please, do remember that now even the smallest help is much needed!
With heartfelt thanks,
Kiia
