Horse transportation to a Romani community in Tg-Jiu on Wed 25th of February 2009
When driving back from Turceni dog shelter Patricia noticed very precarious horse transportation and followed the truck.
When four men came to unload the horses Patricia asked them what they were gonna with the horses. The gypsies told that they had bought the horses for a very cheap price, will keep them until Autumn and then sell them to a slaughter house and get four to six euros per kilo. As Pro Animals Romania can't do anything else than report about this case to the police, we just have to wait and hope that police officers would at least check the condition of horses and how they are kept after the transportation.
Story of one abused horse
Pro Animals Romania saved this horse after her owner and his friends abused and tormented her almost to death.

Little filly found abandoned
This filly was separated from his mother too early and abandoned. Carmena and Patricia tried hard, but unfortunately he perished.
"Horse storage" in Tg-Jiu
The horses that are found wandering alone are collected to the horse shelter in Tg-Jiu and if no one claims them back they are sent to the slaughter house. However, this might be done after weeks of waiting and without given proper care! Usually these horses are owned by gypsies.

Below there are pictures taken in October 2008 of the daily traffic in front of and nearby Tg-Jiu shelter. The road in these photos is extremely busy and the car speeds vary from 80 to 100 kilometres an hour.
Some lonely horses "on a walk". Many have their front legs bound together.
Some random shots of horses with someone holding the reins.
Young boys just barely the age of 6 or 7 riding horses.

A typical load a workhorse has to pull
The cows wander around the area too
Notice the rope that has been tied in a horrible way!
