Our visit
to Tg-Jiu shelter in September is getting closer every day and we are busy
doing preparations for our trip.
Campaign to evict parasites
As I have
already told you earlier, on our trip we are planning on giving deworming and
tick and flea treatments for all the dogs at the shelter. We have managed to
buy these treatments for 150 dogs from here in Finland and we have ordered deworming
treatments from Estonia for almost all the dogs of the
shelter. Patricia and Carmena will buy the rest via the vet of Tg-Jiu. All in
all, the anti-parasite treatments for all the dogs of the shelter will cost
about 2000 euros.
We've
already had quite of a job when buying these treatments and I can imagine that
the job ahead of us when giving these treatments to the dogs won't be any
easier but, as we know, these treatments are much needed and we are doing
everything we can to succeed in this task. Even though we are not spending many
days in Tg-Jiu, we will use our time as efficiently as we possibly can. On
September 9th we have two young, eager, Finnish women travelling to
Tg-Jiu for a couple of months. These women wish to carry out a job practice
related to their studies at Tg-Jiu shelter. I'm sure they will help us to
deworm the dogs if we don't manage to do it while we're there. We are very
happy that Carmena and Patricia will get some longer-termed workforce all the
way from Finland.
Of course,
we hope that those godparents of Tg-Jiu shelter who have the chance would
include a couple of extra euros in addition to the next goddog fee so we could
cover some of the costs of these treatments for the goddogs. Many godparents
have already voluntarily participated in our brave task - heartfelt thanks for
that! And of course, you can always sign up as a shelter godparent which is a
wonderful way to enable these kinds of treatments so, please, do tell yours
friends about shelter godparenting.
Even the
smallest of help for this campaign is welcome and donations are gladly accepted
to our account: 504506-291815 or IBAN: FI08 5045 0620 0918 15, SWIFT: OKOYFIHH,
add a message "anti-parasite treatments" or "loishäädöt".
Greetings from Tg-Jiu shelter
It's been quite peaceful at the shelter. Of course dogs are still abandoned to the
shelter but luckily the number of dogs hasn't increased that from the previous.
The locals still don't adopt dogs often from Pro Animals Romania's shelter,
however, somewhat more dogs are taken away from the shelter maintained by the
city next door. This is most likely because the people in the city's shelter
aren't too interested to know to what kind of conditions the dogs are taken to
and what kind of people adopt the dogs - anyone can get a dog from their side
of the shelter if one wishes.
Horses Dona
and Zuzu have been moved to the yard across Carmena and Patricia's home and
they really like it there. Now no one has to be afraid that the gipsies would
steal those dearly beloved friends of Carmena and Patricia away. Dona has grown
into quite of a beauty and e.g. the ex-owner might want to have Dona back as
his working horse - and torture her nearly to death again. Zuzu is still so
very young and weak and needs some special care and is under careful
observation. In addition to Dona Zuzu has taken Carmena as her surrogate mother
and would want to spend as much time as possible in Carmena's arms.
Zuzu and Dona
Theodora
who Patricia found lying on the street, hurt. Cold-hearted people just kept
walking by, nodding their heads at her. Thedora's leg had to be amputated and
now Theodora is living at Carmena and Patricia's home.
Here are
pictures of orphaned puppies Patricia saved from the streets in August.
Patricia also saved Gigu who was in distress on a busy road after almost being
knocked out by a car. Patricia stopped the traffic and saved Gigu from dying.
These little things will recover for now at Carmena and Patricia's home.
I hope you
remember that with the donations directed to Animal Protection Bank we will
help Zuzu, Theodora, Gigu and several other animals needing help.
Of course, we
are taking some other things, too, to the shelter than just anti-parasite
treatments. We intend to take with us e.g. eco-travel-toilet, solar powered
lamps, a rat trap (banisher) powered by solar cell, headlamps and horse
equipment.
Best regards,
Kiia
