Hi there!

Early on tomorrow morning we are heading towards Romania and Tg-Jiu shelter. On this trip we have once again five very enthusiastic travellers; Anu, Carita, Heli, Jukka and me.

We have quite an amount of things to be taken to the shelter dogs as well as to Carmena. We are planning on buying a washing machine for Carmena to ease up her daily routines as soon as we arrive in Tg-Jiu. A while ago we happened to find out that Carmena had washed most of her laundry already for months with her own bare hands.

Sure we have a nice sum of money, 4.000 euros worth of goddog fees and other donations for the shelter, with us, too, which we will deposit to Pro Animals Romania's account in Tg-Jiu. We have also 720 euros of donations which have been directed personally to Carmena.

At the shelter we are planning to set up an extra warehouse building. The elements for the warehouse were taken to the shelter by a truck already in the beginning of February. Mauri Ojala with his team helped to turn the donated dog house elements into fine and ready-to-use dog houses. The elements had been transported to the shelter already in the beginning of March. Now Mauri is in Finland for a couple of months due to work. We have been in contact with Mauri and he has promised to help us at the shelter also in future. It seems that he might revisit the shelter as he is returning to his home in Romania in May. Some pictures of our dog house work party you can find on our new website:

Sure we'll have lots of other things to do at the shelter than to just put together the extra warehouse. Patricia told that mice have tried to take over the caravan. Our mission is to search all the mice-size holes in the caravan and block them so the mice won't get inside anymore. We will bring an electrical mousetrap - or a mouse banisher - with us that will scare the mice away by using ultrasound. However, we will install that trap to the warehouse building. I believe we have also some spring cleaning up to do in the shelter area and also in the warehouse building.

Of course we will try to clarify some things relating to the part of the dog shelter that is taken care of by the city and what the city will do to the dogs they have collected there. Carmena has already taken many sick dogs from the shelter for her to take care of since no one else seems to care about them. Naturally the conditions are very restless in the city's part of the shelter since there are females in heat and that causes the male dogs to fight. The consequences can sometimes be very serious.

We are trying to have time to greet Rona the horse. The horse had been abandoned by its owner by the road, about 30 kilometers from Tg-Jiu. Rona had been found in a poor condition and had an injured leg. Carmena and Patricia had been reported about the horse. Rona is now living in a temporary shelter and it is taken care of if the costs are covered. And of course Carmena and Patricia have promised to do that. Patricia also took a vet to give Rona antibiotic treatment and examine Rona's leg injury. Patricia and Carmena are trying very hard to find Rona a retirement home since it can't stay in its current place for a long time. As you may know, in Romania in addition to the dogs, the horses share the same appalling fate. We have added some info about the issue to our homepages and a couple of pictures of Rona, too:

There has been an article of PAFi in Koiraposti-magazine's first issue of the year and also in Heinola area's local newspaper Itä-Häme on the 12th of March issue. You can read these articles from our news-section:
http://www.proanimalsfinland.net/content/category/1/43/56/lang,finnish/ (only in Finnish).

I, along with the PAFi-team members, wish you all happy Easter!

The next time I write you will be in a form of a shelter report.

Regards,

Kiia
