Sorry
couldnt wrote you yesterday, but I had to do so many things. I had to
go to the Sanitary Veterinary Direction to take the analises. First
time when I went there the vets told me that they dont have equipment
to find all kind of substances from poison, not even in the country,
in Bucharest they dont have equipment for this. They can only find two
substances in a dead body : '' varfarina'' and "ANTU". This are two
well known poisons here. They also told me that if the dogs were
poisoned with another substance they cant find it in the dead body. And
also that they know that recently was introduced in Romania a new
foreign poison that cant be find in the dead bodies because we dont
have equipment for this. So, yesterday when I went to the SVD, they
told that they didnt find in the dead body of the dog not varfarina or
ANTU, and that they try to make another analise so I must go today. If
they dont find anything this time also, we have nothing to do, we cant
do anything else. We have no proof of the poison used.
Usually,
there are companies who have signed contracts with the city hall, of
poisoning the rats but under this mask they poison the dogs. But, for
this they get substances only from a vet, with his agreements. So, it
is possible that this vet to choose among the substances that cant be
found when making analises, as they know that if we find dead dogs we
take it to analises.
Hopefully all your efforts of writing to the mass media in you country will bring an article written.
Here
it had been the same cold weather this last days, it was announced that
starting tomrrow the weather will be warmer. The ice is the same
everywhere.
As
for the neutering campaign, we were thinking to talk with the vet from
Craiova city (I have told you I went there withs some dogs and he also
came here to operate Aimee). He is a good vet. Now, he will start soon
to neuter 600 dogs in Craiova city, after an agreement with the mayor
and animal protection org.
I have to go now, as later I will be at SVD.

8.2.06 (afternoon)
I
have just returned home and send you a short email this time. I have
told you I went again to the SVD and this time, at the third analise,
they found the poison, it is called " furadan". My father came from
Bucharest for a couple of days so i went with him to the Police this
morning. Also, he went there now to meet the inspector in chief to tell
him about what is going on and let another intimation. Also, this
morning we let at the city hall an intimation regarding the contracts
that the city hall has with various companies. We are waiting their
answer.
While
I was in the city, I was called by an animal lover who told me that the
cathers were in front of her block cathing dogs and lathough she asked
them to leave the dogs alone because she is taking care of them, they
didnt want to. I went there in that area with my father but they were
gone already.
I want
to tell you also something about Bursu. I dont know how to call it,
maybe a miracle, but he stands up and makes steps, walks for one minute
or so. We just want to continue the treatment. You should have seen him
now, he is so changed since you saw him, he has so much energy, plays
all day with Oty ( the little puppy I saved last week. I just want to
hope and hope that he will walk again.

Finally
have started to write you. Please know, and this I tell with all my
heart, for us is useful even to know that you are there for us and do
your best to help. It is so important to feel you have someone to rely
on, that you are not alone. I was telling to my mother, that even when
I went to Bucharest for the exam, in the classroom before start,
instead of repeting, I was writing down on a pice of paper what to do
next, what is to be done at home, with dogs, to try to publish a small
newspaper to buy from somewhere some earclips for the neutering
campaign from summer etc etc so even when I am not here, I think about
this.
At
the shelter, nothing improved, cold, ice, problems with the employees.
When I went there on saturday morning, there was only one employee and
the other two werent there at 11 am. I have asked the one where are the
other two and he was lieing saying that he dont know. The dogs were
still in cages at that hour, the kennels were full of dirt, they had no
water etc, an awful image. So, I waited them there, they came a little
drunk after half an hour saying a stupid reason. I try to tell them
that we make efforts to give the money, to give them food to eat etc (
to the poor I told you about). Because there were three my mother came
a little late then usual but once again it was shown not to trust in
anyone, they dont care about dogs , if we are not there to
work/supervise them, they just dont care. The poor one left and
remained the other two. We want to find 2 good workers to make them
working papers, but how can we trust such persons. Today, my mother
told me that came another one, in total three to see how they manage
and to choose two of them.

It
were some broadcasts at a national TV in the favor of dogs - three
ladies were invited- but there was also a crazy man there who was
saying that dogs must be sacrificed and used for leather and fur. A
sick person. Also, it was shown that on a French channel was a
broadcasts about a shoes factory from Romania who is using dog leather,
horrible but true. The shoe was brought to France and at the tests it
was 85% probability to be made of dog leather.
You
know that Bosquito - that dog that was assumed to kill the japanese,
has a lawyer? His lawyer is the best one, female, from Romania , very
welknown. She and others said that is really impossible, as she talked
to doctors and vets, that a small dog like Bosquito to bite and to
kill. It might been a fighting dog thought to kill.
They want to save Bosquito from being killed and to give him for adoption. It
was a good broadcasts, it was seen by many people all over, they even
showed images how poor dogs are caugh with wires and killed, injected
in the heart- including puppies, with a big seringe, and left for 30
min. to suffer until dying. The press attacked also the mayor from
Constanta city ( a very modern and young mayor, who did so many good
things, and also he has for years a program of Neuter and Return), for
living dogs free on the streets.
Many
are against this Neuter and Return projects, indeed every dog needs an
owner, a home. On the streets, although they are neutered, they are hit
by cars,bitten by people, tortured by children, have no food or care.
It would be ideal to have each homes. But now, it is important to be
shelters, as many as possible. Probably, here like in every country
will be private and state shelters. In a good shelter the life of a dog
is better than wandering on the streets.

I have heard of so many stories when stray dogs saved just born children, they stood on them to make them warm. Kind
of this news was presented recently at TV, a quardian found a new born
child abandoned near a rubbish dump and a stray dog was near him,
protecting him. The post PRO TV,
said that the dogs was going to kill the baby if he wasnt found by that
quardian. A big and stupid lie, because also the quardian said that the
stray dog was near the child but didnt do him wrong. But, even if the strays are doing good think, saving babies, a part of mass media present this in a negative light. There is no day to pass, not to see news about stray dogs at national TV posts, of course that negative.

Lately,
there were also many press articles against stray dogs in the local
mass media. THey were talking not only about Tg-Jiu but also about
Carbunesti, Bumbesti city etc where we have the contracts of Neuter and
Return. Also, they were proud of a mayor from Turceni ( also in Gorj
county) who is saying that he will start euthanasing dogs. There we
found out that stray dogs were killed with clubs, and shot some time
ago.
Also, last evening we saw this article bellow in the same local newspaper.
"Adăpostul
pentru câinii comunitari din oraşul Târgu Jiu, situat în spatele
fostului Coleus, va trebui mutat. Din cauză că este amplasat în
apropierea locuinţelor târgujienilor din zona respectivă, padocul de
câini va funcţiona într-o altă locaţie. Ion Iliuţă, directorul
Direcţiei Sanitar Veterinare (DSV) Gorj, a declarat că „va trebui
găsită imediat o altă locaţie, pentru care să se întocmească
documentaţiile necesare în vederea autorizării sanitar-veterinare”.
Purtătorul de cuvânt al Primăriei Târgu Jiu, Constantin Creţan, a
precizat că „în maxim o lună de zile, Asociaţia Pro Animals va trebui
sa se mute în altă locaţie, după care noi ne vom ocupa de toate cele
necesare pentru ca adăpostul să primească autorizaţia
sanitar-veterinară”.
De altfel, la toate primăriile din localităţile care au astfel de
adăposturi pentru câini, cu excepţia oraşelor Turceni, Tismana şi
Novaci, unde nu există asemenea padocuri, DSV Gorj a trimis un
avertisment pentru remedierea neregulilor ce le prezintă fiecare în
parte şi întocmirea de urgenţă a documentaţiile pentru primirea de aviz
sanitar-veterinar. Cei care nu vor respecta condiţiile
sanitar-veterinare vor fi sancţionaţi cu amenzi contravenţionale între
10 şi 25 de milioane de lei."

My
mother called this morning the spokeman of the city hall and he told to
my mother that the Technical Director of the City Hall said in the City
Council Meeting , this week, that the shelter must be demolished and we
must find another place.
For
the moment, we didnt receive any official paper, a letter of eviction
for example, from the city hall. But, I am afraid that they will
probably do this.
But,
we will do our best to stop them, to let us stay more. Dont know, if
they move a pass forward, I am thinking of launching an international
protest letter for the mayor o f Tg-Jiu ( this we never did), besides
the pressures that we will make inside the country.
