6 . Our Christmas thoughts for you!
1 . Kiia and Jukka, came to visit Pro Animals Shelter
during 24.11.05-27.11.05 in order to make their own opinion about us
and our work. We and the dogs were extremely glad to have them here,
to spend some time together. Just recently they founded "Pro Animals"
Finland, www.pafiry.net , an
association which " takes an effort to help Pro Animals Romania to take
care of the dogs in the shelter of Tg-Jiu and support Carmena and
Patricia on their way to build own private shelter to the land they
have managed to buy ."
They also made a
report on their visit that you can read entirely on our website,
including seeing photos that we took during the visit. "..............
W e were warmly welcomed by Carmena and 30 animals of the
house...................It is very touching to realize how full of life
and love Carmena's and Patricia's house is! ..............First to
welcome us was Marc whose..................We would have liked to spent
much more time with all those lovely pets of the house but there were
hundreds of dogs waiting for us in the shelter.................We were
immediately surrounded by numerous friendly furry tails and wet noses
and enormous friendly barking. I did not feel fear at all - I was
totally confided that I am surrounded only and just only with my
friends. And that how it was, we spent hours in the shelter and I did
not see any unfriendly face during our stay................We did not
see skinny or unhealthy dog, only............I think that we were like
in wonderland......... Even we had heard that dogs of the shelter are
in good hands but we never would have been understood it if we haven't
visited there. .............it can be seen very well in the faces and
behaving of the dogs in shelter................and Carmena cleaning,
caring, loving, feeding, nursing etc. etc. She seems to be everywhere
working and working..................We hope from the bottom of our
hearts that animal lovers and associations all over the world would
wake up to help Carmena and Patricia. We promise that it is worth to
do." www.proanimals1.ro/v.htm
2. In July, Sandrine, Patrick and Christian, from 'Respectons' -France
,came back to visit us ,after the visit made last summer . " We arrive
to PRO ANIMALS 's shelter where ............... It exists all the same
stupendous people like Carmena and Patricia who live in hard conditions
and who have devoted their life to animals . They often
....................On the road to Carmena's house , we often stop
because stray dogs know her car very well and she always has in the
boot of the car food for dogs even if ...................... When we
arrive to Carmena's house , she goes out to feed stray dogs in
neighbourhood......................I 'm in a rage because it 's always
those who have nothing who make the most ! ..................Carmena
and Patricia , you have all my respect ! Your courage , your tenacity
and your devotion to animals are exemplary . Stand firm , keep on your
weekly salvages , because everything you do for animals is magnificent
, grand and animals by their way make it to know you everyday ! www.proanimals1.ro/v.htm
3 . Antonella, the vet sent by Wetnose Animal Aid www.wetnoseanimalaid.com
, spent a period of time in Tg-Jiu, in July, and also writing a daily
diary "..............Most of the dogs in this town know and love
Carmena, they recognize her car, they kiss her and people call her ''
The mother of the dogs''...............Today I was touched by an old,
very maternal lady that ...is looking after 5 orphans..........I went
to help the vet of the shelter this afternoon................A lot of
dogs have sad terrible stories here, but they can't
speak!............... It's a fortune if you live at the
shelter!!!...........................When I see what Patricia and
Carmena are doing for the dogs i feel glad but there are always many
problems, ................ They are working hard to make sure a good
life to their dogs.I am not surprised they havent got time for anything
else.........There isn't rest if you are running a shelter!!! www.proanimals1.ro/v.htm
4. City Hall's Activity.
Unfortunately, as we announced you in all our last newsletters, the
situation of the stray dogs from the city didnt improve. The
municipality's catchers continue their 'work' of catching, torturing
and killing stray dogs.:
-
In September, was organized a poisoning campaing. There were also
poisoned even some dogs that we neutered some time ago and let them in
the care of the people who were working at the hospital. People
complaint that many animals died, animals that they had been taking
care for years.
We brought one of the dead dogs to analises and it
was proven that was poisoned. Generally dogs died immediatelly in
terrible pain and they vomited a pink substance. Of course, the
authorities deny that it is their action although the cathers were seen
by people when leaving poison. The bad part is that the people dont
have courage to give a testimony in front of the Police. We made this
public in the press and even deposed intimations to the competent
authorities.
-
As for the project of Neuter and Return that we brought to the City
Hall some ago, - details in our last newsletter - it was rejected once
more.
5. News from the shelter and about our activity.
At the shelter, as you can imagine, there are a lot of problems and
things are regularly changing. Abandoned, found or saved dogs,
recoveries and happy adoptions, all make part of our everyday life.
Abandons: Puppies, pregant females are being abandoned at the shelter
by iresponsible people. They leave them, in boxes or sacks, in front of
the shelter. We do our best to explain them to neuter their dogs in
order to avoid appearing new puppies or that it is almost impossible
for us to receive more dogs in the shelter, but they say that if we
dont, they abandon them in the woods or kill them.
You can see bellow two of the abandons: Marcela and her puppies; the
man who came to abandon in the sack some puppies, and luckly one has
been adopted in that day.
Recoveries and Adoptions:
Found or abandoned, they arrive at the shelter in very bad
conditions, skinny, weak, sick and suffering. As Kiia from Pro Animals
Finalnd was saying " the recovery is amazing!". We do our best to bring
them back to life, besides the phisical trauma, to make them want to
live again.
- At the shelter,
we have also two cats, Willy( who was abandoned by a man there when he
was a small and weak kitten) and Patty, that we found staying in the
middle of the street, while cars were passing near her.She could have
been killed anytime but luckly, we saved her in time. They grew now,as
you can see and stay in the room near the shelter. Willy is the 'man'
and protects Patty, and they play all day long.
-
Being found extremely skinny and weak, Mathilda was in a very bad
state. Besides the medical care and the food that she desperately
needed, feeling that she was loved was also very important in her
recovery. After this, she was neutered and found a loving family.
-
Calu was abandoned at the shelter, by a teacher who pretended to be an
animal lover. He came very skinny, with a big wound on his head. Like
many others, after the recovery, we found him a good owner soon. You
can read many other happy stories on our website.
Building the new shelter II:
Unfortunately, the architect who promised to make us the poject for
free, dumped us with no explanation. So, we had to look for another
one. We obtained some of the papers needed, like the Urbanism
Certificate, the PUD plan ( for which we had to obtain permits from
three public institutions) and after its approval by the Town Council,
the architect will start making the project. We will keep you updated
about this situation and also about the estimative costs when it will
be ready.
Law for Animal Protection starts to be respected.
The gipsies who are living near the shelter were organizing a
meeting, every Thursday, on the plain near, bringing horses to test
them. They were torturing them with an inimaginable cruelty, forcing
them to carry tones of sand climbing a hill, in order to show their
force and to able to sell them at a good price, beat them until they
were full of blood and were down on their knees.
This thing was happening frequently. We opossed to this savage
practice, tried to talk to the gipsies and asked them stop this, but
had no luck, on the contrary we were sworen and even whipped. So,we
couldnt bare anymore see the poor horses tortured like this, and we
decided to call the Police, although we knew that there was a risk in
doing this.
To our surprise The Direction
of Rapid Intervention, the masked policemen, arrived at the shelter in
less then 4 minutes, acted with promptitude, put the gipsies down on
earth with the gun to their heads. They put them the handcuffs and
brought them to the Police.
It was a real
movie scene, people from the Customs which is near, were looking very
surprised and didnt know what was happening.
At the police, they were fined according the Law 205 - for Animal Protection - for the bad treatment of animals.
This was a very good thing, looks like things are heading in the right
direction. Since then, we have a good co-operation with the Police and
have their support in cases like this.
Vulpoiu story.
Vulpoiu was living in Bumbesti-Jiu city( near Tg-Jiu).As we have
closed a contract of Neuter and Return with that City Hall, the FPCC
mobile clinic was there this summer, neutering and returning many dogs.
During the visit he was also neutered and returned.
Vulpoiu was living on ths streets there but he had an animal lover, a
lady, who was taking care of him. He was sleeping at her door in a
block of flats.
But, a sick person who was
living in that block, who coudnt stand dogs at all, and who was beating
every dog he saw in the streets, one day, took an iron club and beat
Vulpoiu very bad. He pulled out his eye and everywhere on the
staircase, on the block's doors was full of blood.
The lady succeeded to save him from death, hidded him in a garrage, and called us.
We went there, made some photos but also made a complaint to the
Police. That lady came as a witness, and we , together with the a
representative from the Police and Sanitary Veterinary Direction went
there were it happened the tragedy............was blood everywhere.
The Police gave him a fine of almost 150 Euros for his act of cruelty.
We took Vulpoiu in the shelter. For a week he was almost dead, didnt
eat anything ,didnt move but we made him a treatment everyday for all
this period. After a time,Vulpoiu woke up from his long period of
recovery, he found it hard to get use to his state - with only one eye.
Fortunately, now he is better and is very attached by us.This is only
one of the numberless happy ending stories of the dogs we saved along
the time.
Our activity outside the shelter.
Besides the shelter and Tg-Jiu city we also go in any place we hear
about animal abuses or in bad conditions. The contracts of Neuter and
Return that we have closed with 5 Town Halls in 2004 and 2005 - in
cooperation with FPCC - are working on without any problem.
Everytime,we had meetings with those mayors in order to decide the
schedule and the mobile clinic conditions.
Also, we went again , for several times, to Hunedoara county, in cities
like Vulcan, Lupeni, Petrosani in order to check the activity and the
so- called 'shelters of that Towns Halls.Although, things seemed to be
on the right way ,what we found is beyond words: skinny dogs in
shelters, dirty, hungry and thirsty and heaps of dogs' dead bodies threw
at the rubbish dump. We deposed several intimations to the Town Halls
and the other competent authorities, against this inhumane and illegal
activities.
Ways of helping.
Unfortunately the bad weather came, is cold and rainy outside, so there
are much more needs for the shelter, like straws and wood for making
more cages, sheet irons in order to repair the roof, blankets and
towls, a radiator for keeping warm the room near the shelter where
we have the puppies, old and sick dogs; medicines, cleaning products
and different other items.
We also have been trying to raise some funds in order to buy a van that
we need it so much in order to transport food to the shelter, dogs to
the vet's office;
There are numberless ways of helping us, you can:
- Give our newsletters and brochures to any animal lover you know in your community;
- Organise a fundraising event in your town, with your effort you give a inestimable support to hundreds of poor animals;
- Write some words about our dogs and needs in a local newspaper etc.;
